THE
TROUBLE WITH MOVIES
I
must admit, my mind went on screensaver a couple of
times during this video,
but
I wanted to know why modern films just don't seem to
interest me any more.
Maybe
the trouble started in the 90s, when a lot of cinema
started to look like a compilation
of
music videos or a long selection of set-pieces. As for
CGI, I had high hopes for it - but there's
an
ocean of difference between good CGI and bad. Maybe
culture itself has become too infantile -
I
left marvel behind when I started wearing long pants,
and I've seen far too much anime when trawling
through
art websites. Even the guy who made this video seems
to think that 'Avitar' was OK ...
the
idea of watching an animated Roger Dean poster makes
me feel quite ill.
For
a while, it seemed like the French and Spanish had taken
over the mantle of good
storytelling
- now we're looking even further afield. Maybe, finding
good things to watch
has
just become a full-time job.
